Nonprofit says Park Service plan to reduce plastic doesn’t move fast enough

A Park Service initiative to cut back on single-use plastics is criticised in a recent study by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.

The charity claims that on comparable projects, other public lands agencies are moving more quickly.

Until the Trump administration changed the regulation, the Grand Canyon was one of the few parks that was setting the standard for lowering the usage of single-use plastics.

A renewed effort to limit plastic pollution has been called for by President Joe Biden, and public lands agencies have put out their own recommendations.

For instance, the Bureau of Land Management hopes to implement a reduction by the 2027 budget year.
