Alappuzha native makes a living by ridding Vembanad Lake of plastic pollution

While the 58-year-old Suresh Kumar deserves appreciation for taking the initiative to gather trash, such as plastic bottles, sachets, glass bottles, and containers, it also highlights Vembanad Lake’s declining state as a designated Ramsar site. Suresh Kumar, a resident of the Alappuzha municipality’s Nehru Trophy ward, is rather proud of his ability to gather plastic waste that floats on Vembanad Lake and earn a living by selling it to recycling companies.

Twice a day, the 58-year-old guy takes a little fibre boat out to the waterbody and returns with a variety of waste, such as plastic bottles and sachets, glass beer bottles, containers, and more. “I am making a small effort to lessen plastic pollution in this area of the lake because I have a lot of free time.” I earn a living while also providing a service, as Mr. Kumar puts it.
